Client

The Association of International Educators (NAFSA), the largest global nonprofit association dedicated to international education and exchange, approached us to produce and edit plenary videos for their annual conference. The conference convenes the Association’s 10,000 members from over 3,500 institutions worldwide over four days. We created a video for each of the four days along with an exhibit hall version. The videos contain over 45 segments, 33 of which Ensemble produced. The segments share information about seminars, workshops, plenary speakers and other activities to keep attendees informed and engaged. The videos are shown before each plenary speaker’s speech and via a kiosk in the exhibit hall.

Challenge

The content of the videos is wide ranging and doesn’t naturally fit together. We needed to create a unifying message across content ranging from university ads and sponsorship segments to announcements about special sessions, teaser videos featuring keynote speakers, and informational videos about NAFSA. To achieve this, we had to develop a coherent, consistent concept to bring everything together in a way that made sense.

Aha! Moment

We decided to build off of NAFSA’s conference logo by creating a package of motion graphics to make the content feel seamless.

Solution

After creating the motion graphics theme, we improved the production values of source content where possible, designed unique motion graphic segments and incorporated motion graphics over video content in the form of transitions and lower thirds. This created a consistent look and feel and reinforced the conference’s branding.

We also wrote narration, chose music appropriate for the international education theme and diversity of attendees, and sound mixed all of the videos. Consistent with NAFSA’s commitment to accessibility, we subtitled all of the videos.

Impact

The videos were shown over the four days of the conference and were seen by thousands of attendees. The segments energized the room as people waited to see plenary speakers, were used as informational tools throughout the day, and served as a consistent backdrop to the event. In addition, we created segments that function as stand alone videos about NAFSA’s seventy-year history and its advocacy work. These are tools used by NAFSA on their website and via email campaigns to communicate with members about their work.
